We are constantly challenging ourselves to combine functionality, efficiency and the artistry of space making to realize great design. Our user-centric approach to design helps to create a facility which supports healing of the mind, body and spirit.
Karlsberger is a company of many firsts: We designed the first private patient room in the 1970’s, recognized and included family space within the healthcare environment, and most recently, we planned and designed the new Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, the first LEED Platinum hospital in the world.

The pediatric waiting area is tucked away from general ED seating which provides separation of the two waiting areas. A fun wave pattern in the floor, referred to as “the river,” draws children into the space and the bright colors and tactile translucent wall panels create a positive diversion.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The 65,000 square-foot, three-story facility will feature advanced technology for the treatment of aggressive cancers, including an integrated pediatric anesthesia suite.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION: The new 250-bed acute care hospital is located on a brownfield site in downtown Springfield. A full-service medical facility, the hospital includes all private patient rooms equipped with the most advanced technology, and has the capability to expand to an additional 120 beds.

The hospital’s environmentally-friendly design features include rock formations that aid in natural water flow; a series of healing gardens that absorbs the rainwater versus it draining into the parking lots and sewers; attention to sunlight exposure and heat gain; and the thoughtful selection of materials with high recyclable content. The hospital is on track to become the first hospital in Tennessee to be LEED® Silver certified.
The 125-bed community hospital includes emergency, obstetric, outpatient, and imaging services; medical/surgical and ICU beds; a cafeteria; and various support services.
SUNY Upstate Medical University is a 366-bed teaching medical center located in downtown Syracuse. The vertical expansion of the East Wing of the Hospital will provide additional bed capacity and private patient rooms that meet today’s standards.
The 37-bed tertiary care “children’s hospital within a hospital” includes a dedicated pediatric ED with its own entry and treatment zone; a pediatric surgical suite with two ORs and its own pre/post op and holding/recovery areas; and several PICU, med/surg and NICU beds.
Children’s National Medical Center’s (CNMC) Neonatology Program is ranked in the top 10 in the country according to U.S. News. The NICU is the region’s only Level III C, the highest distinction available by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ guidelines.
The solution was to design a new 259-bed total replacement facility for All Children’s Hospital and to literally design Bayfront’s obstetrics services into the new pediatric hospital – a unique approach to the hospital within a hospital concept.
